A Sunday Morning with Chris Oyakhilome

‘God bless you,’ says a woman, calling to a group of arriving teenagers who are waving with signs as they walk into the large arena in Lagos, Nigeria. ‘We are glad to be here’ is written on one of the signs – Others have the name of the man who will be performing the leading act printed right across the front. And in many ways what is about to transpire is very much like a theatre performance or maybe even a musical. However, the man whom many people have traveled hundreds of miles to see is more than just an act. He is a savior, a healer and most of all a man of God.

We, of course, speak of nobody other than Pastor Chris Oyakhilome. The tall and impeccably attired clergyman is the man everybody has come to see. His words inspire millions the world over, and he is a hero in his home country of Nigeria. He is a man who believes in God, and he has made it his life’s mission to spread the word of Christ and to help people find their true worth in the eyes of God.

Through his anointed ministry that spans more than 25 years and covers most countries on the planet, the pastor, teacher, healer, TV host, and the famous author has helped thousands of people experience a glorious and happy life based on the Word of God. Over the years the flamboyant clergyman has helped millions of people find their way to God. And on this road, he has performed miracles that too many may seem unbelievable if you have not seen them first hand.

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome is the author of ‘Rhapsody of Realities.’ His teachings are also available in audio and video. This man of God is not afraid to embrace modern communication methods. Pastor Chris will go to great lengths to spread the word of Christ and God to the world in any way he can. You can follow him on Twitter, Facebook and more. In addition, the pastor’s daily devotional, ‘Rhapsody of realities,’ is a huge success, educating and comforting millions of followers on a daily basis.

Presiding over the ever-growing network of Christ Embassy Churches and academic fraternities on all five continents, Pastor Chris is also a reverend of one of the largest congregations in Africa. It leads to massive teachings and healing crusades that can bring together more than 3.5 million people in one evening – in a way very much like this evening – for certain, the same buzz is humming in the air as more and more people enter the large building and make their way to their seats in preparation for the sermon.

However, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s efforts do not stop there. In 2003, he created the first ever-growing Christian Network of Africa broadcasting 24 hours a day. He is also the host of ‘Atmosphere for Miracles,’ a program broadcast on major television channels around the world, bringing the presence of God into people’s homes.

The internationally renowned Healing School is one of Pastor Chris’s miniseries that manifests the healing works of Jesus Christ today and has helped many people receive healing and miracles through the gifts of the Spirit.

Presently, It’s 8:23 am on a Sunday morning – ten minutes before the service starts in the vast arena rented especially for the event. People are still pouring in from the parking garages, bus stops, and taxi stands and are walking toward the foyer to the escalators leading into the auditorium. Once at the top they continue on a patterned carpet past beige walls – overall, the place oozes a hotel lobby atmosphere so much more than the football stadium look the structure’s exterior suggests. On the left, close to the main entrance, is a childcare station. And then, behind a large doorway, the congregation walks into a huge arena-like area.

Thousands of people are standing in rows of padded folding armchairs in the spotlight. ‘Lord, I can hear you call,’ resonates to guitar riffs and saxophone throughout the hall. A young woman in a white blouse has closed her eyes and moves to the music; the side ranks are also in motion as many visitors stretch out their hands against the blue illuminated hall ceiling; a man who is in his forties is crying.

There is no traditional altar in this so-called church, no organ, no pulpit, no cross, but a big round stage – with a big band, singers and two gospel choirs celebrating in front of green glitter curtain. A blonde woman in leather jacket steps forward, holding the microphone tightly in her hands. ‘Who can stop the Lord Almighty?’ she asks of the crowd in a piercing voice. The whole hall has the right answers as the text is on big screens. A camera crane rushes across the stage and captures the action from all directions.

This is the typical atmosphere before one of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s sermons. The atmosphere is electric and reminiscent to the start of a World Cup football final. All of the people present are expectant as to what to expect. Of course, many in the throng of humanity are not there for the first time. For thousands if not millions of people, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has become a large part of their lives. And if they cannot be present in person, they will follow him assiduously in any way they can.

A huge cheer erupts in the hall when an elegantly dressed man steps onto the stage. The applause seems to last forever. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome milks the crowd of every last shred of the ovation. He waits for the clapping to die down – then – his voice booms over the thousands of heads.

‘When the Holy Spirit takes over your life, He’ll drive every sickness out of your body; He’ll make right everything that was wrong…’

It is the beginning of another mind-blowing service. People nod their heads, they shout ‘Amen!’ or simply squeeze their partner’s hands as Pastor Chris builds up momentum. Everybody present knows that it is going to be another evening of miracles and Godly encounters.
